In collaboration with ONCE,
Standing as an iconic building, the Lebanese Pavilion incarnates the idea of Lebanon as being a connection Hub at the Center of Civilizations and a Platform of Unity, in Concordia and Harmony. Set as a cube, an archetypal form that embeds the four Cardinal directions, or the two axes of the world, the pavilion is meant as a micro-cosmos, a miniature of the world, bearing the universal message Lebanon could give.
The Pavilion should be perceived as a Monument, a solid rock personifying the mountains of Lebanon. Its cubical form is carved by three successive and concentric squares, representing the major layers of History: Antiquity, Medieval and Modern times. This visual succession suggests time in the form of an axis that leads to an Art Installation. The hierarchical staging of these sequences expresses the idea considering the purpose of Lebanese history as being the personification of the theme of Concordia – Harmony, a theme that Lebanon offers as a model to the world.
