One of MSSM ASSOCIATES projects,
The footbridge focuses on creating a microcosm around the overcrowded roads of the region through maneuvers on landscaping, materials and form. The aim is to create an interactive environment for students in the university nearby to rest, interact with each other, and study.
The design intent was to form a soft link between the two areas where people can rest, interact with each other, and sit to read or study. The northern part of the bridge starts with an elegant ramp that curves gently then forms the bridge in a continuous architectural expression. On the south part, where the bridge gets to its largest width, we can find a rest area and a lift. Stairs join the bridge on both sides for quick access and efficiency.
The form, both functional and aesthetic, and the choice of materials, corian for softness and wood for nature, allow a direct interaction with the passengers. The deck is organic, and constantly changing, morphing into different staging areas. This is achieved through a continuous surface changing along the deck, influenced by the ergonomics of a person sitting, or just resting along the balustrade. Alternating between wood and corian brings a sense of harmony, and acts as an organic film separating people walking through, from the noises coming from the street beneath.
